In May 2017, Bethany’s mom died of a rare blood disease that left her unable to have children. Her body never fully recovered and she spent six months in an intensive care unit before her lungs began failing.

Throughout the summer of 2017, Bethany continued to work on her music, but things took a sharp turn for the worse this past January.
The family spent the night in a motel. Bethany’s cousin and his family were visiting. She was also struggling with a severe stomach ulcer (the night before Christmas).
Bethany says: ‘The morning of January 11, I woke up and vomited. I thought maybe it was food poisoning because I was vomiting for about an hour and then it finally subsided.’
Bethany was rushed to hospital for treatment. The doctors were unable to help her. After a week of intensive care, she was able to go home, but the pain in her stomach grew worse and the family began to worry that she wouldn’t survive.
Bethany tells her mother in an email they’re close friends.
“We all have to accept that things will inevitably not be perfect … But we can also look at it as, well, all will be well,” she says. “I just want you to know that I love you and that I’m going to fight for every second of my life to make you proud.”
