St. Louis region announces plan for Rams settlement money

A public hearing on the proposed settlement agreement between the St. Louis region and the Rams for the use of the St. Louis County Convention Center was held Tuesday morning in Clayton. It was the final day before the full commission meeting.

The meeting was held at Clayton City Hall at 9:30 a.m. in the front council chambers of the city hall building.

The three public hearings held throughout the day, along with a closed door session held after the public hearing at 6 p.m., gave the St. Louis region, in collaboration with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, the final opportunity to put together a plan that could put the $7.3 million settlement into escrow.

With the time allotted for the hearing, commission members asked members of Kroenke’s legal team to lay out a plan of how the money will be transferred to the St. Louis region, with or without a vote by the full commission.

Commission members listened to the presentation and asked questions.

Commission members also asked for examples of how the money will be used and how the $7.3 million from the settlement will be divided up. The questions were about how the money would be used and how it would be paid out, and asked for input on what they are considering.

“This is my time to tell you what I’m thinking and I have a suggestion,” Commissioner Bob Hays said. “I don’t think we should do this in two days, but I do think we should meet and talk things through.”

Commissioners discussed the plan that Kroenke’s legal team had presented to them.

“I am of the opinion that we have discussed everything to the point of the point of where there is a plan,” Commissioner Mary Keenan said. “I have a question or many questions.”

Keenan said she and other commissioners are interested in looking at it together, while still listening
